Hi Patty, thanks for engaging. I think it was a succession of wrong choices, and once he was in far enough it seemed like there was no turning back. I've given it thought that at several points he could have made the right choices. Perhaps he would be a celebrated athlete today, or work for an NGO (like his father proposed as I read in the BBC article).
