So interesting! As a former student of translation, I can relate. English is the second or third language I started learning. From TV I learned American, but at high school and college, they made sure to teach us British English. I later worked for a multinational with people from the UK and US. Now this gets really confusing to me, as I will always reply in an accent resembling that of my interlocutor. If I'm in a mixed company, I talk myself into a knot.
